Microspace Communications Partners with
International Datacasting to Provide Affordable Content
Distribution for Distance Learning and other Multimedia
Applications
Raleigh, NC
(April 26, 2005) Microspace Communications Corporation
(Microspace), the leading provider of point-to-multipoint
satellite services, today announced a partnership with
International Datacasting Corporation (IDC) to offer an
affordable and comprehensive content delivery solution
for distance learning applications. Based on its VELOCITY® service
and IDC’s Datacast XD platform and the SuperFlex
DVB product line, the solution will provide customers with
faster technology implementation and efficiency at a reduced
deployment cost. IDC, based in Ottawa, Canada, is a leading
provider of end-to-end applications solutions utilizing
advanced products for reliable multicasting systems and
broadband multimedia content delivery.
“More and more companies are using our
VELOCITY service to deliver distance learning applications
because of its inherent reliability and scalability,” said
Joe Amor, VP and GM of Microspace. “The proven performance
and reputation of IDC’s core technology makes this
a complete, robust and cost-effective solution. We’re
truly excited about the new content delivery capabilities
this relationship will bring to our customers.”
Microspace has installed IDC’s Datacast
XD platform in their Network Operations Center, which enables
seamless integration with VELOCITY and provides customers
with a simple direct content delivery solution. Microspace’s
VELOCITY content delivery service supports the IDC infrastructure
and allows the companies to work together to demonstrate
and deploy IDC’s leading edge technologies in a cost-effective
manner. IDC will provide VELOCITY users with its SuperFlex
satellite receiver appliances which offer advanced features
including integrated web server, hard drive, and multimedia
outputs.
The Microspace / IDC partnership aims to leverage
the two companies’ extensive applications experience
which includes Internet connectivity, enterprise networks,
broadcast radio networks, syndicated television content delivery,
digital signage, digital cinema and financial and news content
distribution.
IDC President and CEO Ron Clifton commented, “We
are very pleased to be partnering with Microspace. We have
extensive experience implementing multimedia solutions internationally
for broadcasters, governments, educational institutions and
enterprises alike. Our expertise and advanced technologies
combined with the high quality of service Microspace provides
