Christian Broadcasting System
Expands Services With Microspace for Distribution of Dr.
Laura Radio Show
Satellite
Supports Growing Christian Radio Market
Raleigh, NC – October
3, 2006– Microspace Communications Corporation
(Microspace),
the
leading provider of point-to-multipoint satellite services,
today
announced that Christian Broadcasting
System,
Ltd.
is expanding its services with Microspace for the distribution
of the Dr. Laura radio program. The
Dr.
Laura
Program will be available as part of Microspace’s
Christian
Radio
Consortium (CRC) service located on the AMC-3 satellite.
With
this addition, Christian Broadcasting System
expands
its already nationwide distribution of syndicated Christian
programming.
Christian Broadcasting System began
distribution
of The Dr. Laura Program earlier this year. According
to Jon
Yinger,
president,
Christian Broadcasting System, Dr. Laura’s
approach
is compatible with the Christian Broadcasting System mission.
“It is important that we provide good quality programming
to our listeners. Dr. Laura is well-respected in her field
and has been recognized by the National Associations of
Broadcasters with the prestigious Marconi Award for Network/Syndicated
Personality of The Year. In addition, this show compliments
programming already offered by our network which includes
The Dave Ramsey Show, Radio Liberty, People to People
and America’s Wake-up Call.”
According to DrLaura.com, the show is
aimed
at helping people with a wide range of personal, work,
and familial
problems.
She "preaches, teaches, and nags about
morals,
values
and ethics. "
Christian Broadcasting System distributes
its
programming using Microspace’s VELOCITY® satellite
service,
which allows the network to reach all major markets in
the
United
States. The network began using satellite about
five
years
ago.
Continued Yinger, “Expanding our
service
offering with satellite was a natural evolution for the
business.
We
work
with Microspace because reliability is essential to
maintaining
the high quality we offer in our programming. When
you
are distributing live talk, downtime is deadly. Microspace
has the right redundancy systems in place
to
ensure
that
there is no downtime. ”
According to a study conducted in 2005 by National Religious
Broadcasters, an association representing Christian communicators
in radio, television, Internet and film, the number of
religious stations grew 14 percent in the past five years
as compared with the four percent growth in the overall
radio industry. A separate study by the Barna Group found
that 46 percent of adults in the United States are tuning
into a Christian radio broadcast in a typical month.
John Bimrose, Senior Account Manager
at Microspace comments on this market growth, “These
numbers are not surprising, especially when you work
with a growing organization like
Christian
Broadcasting System. The CRC service reaches over 1100
Christian radio stations in the US. Utilizing
this
platform, programmers and ministries can instantly reach
this targeted audience”
